International fundraisers take over Australia’s Gold Coast this February

by Christiana Stergiou

A select handful of international fundraising experts are set to entertain, challenge and educate fundraisers at the Gold Coast this February. I had the good fortune to see just a few of them recently at the International Fundraising Congress in the Netherlands in October. Australasian fundraisers now have the chance to see them too, at the FIA’s International Fundraising Conference in 2012 – Dare to be Different.

In the weeks leading up to the conference, I’ll be sharing some stories, articles and fundraising news related to the speakers and the conference. For a quick taste, let’s start with Dan, Kay and Adrian…

Dan Pallotta, controversial author of Uncharitable is set to challenge fundraisers to think big and break free of their chains. He argues that charities are restrained from achieving their big goals because they are forced to work under a rulebook that is different to for-profits. The belief that charities should keep their overheads low is just one of the restrictions that Dan challenges. If you or your board members think it’s important to keep your fundraising costs low, you’ve got to check out Dan Pallotta’s session and the subsequent panel discussion on Thursday 1 March.

Kay Sprinkle Grace will be one of the special fundraising experts joining that panel discussion. Kay is also presenting the opening plenary at the conference. She is one of the world’s most experienced fundraisers and is particularly interested in the changing face of philanthropy and the engagement of boards in fundraising. Kay is also presenting a joint masterclass with Professor Adrian Sargent about what every board member should know about fundraising and what happens if they don’t. This session, for board members and fundraisers a like is a world first.

Adrian Sargeant’s sessions at the IFC were packed to the rafters. Decades of fundraising research means that Adrian has a unique ability to share his understanding of donors and fundraising techniques. From bequests, to donor loyalty to improving your fundraising materials, Adrian’s research is important for all fundraisers.

Dan, Kay and Adrian will be joined by leading international and local fundraisers, including Lucy Gower (innovation), Richard Radcliffe (bequests), AJ Leon (online) and many more.  And with the addition of some Queensland sunshine, the Gold Coast is the place for fundraisers to be from 28 February to 2 March 2012. Will you dare to be different? Join us at www.fiaconference.org.au. Early bird registrations close 23 December so register now.
